Rev. Father Joseph Roggendorf, S. J., is a German scholar and linguist who has lived for 20 years in Japan. He is Dean of the Graduate School of Sophia University in Tokyo, a leading authority on Japanese literature, and edits the Jochi quarterly magazine.
