An archive is also a story of parcels, suitcases and reading rooms. These photographs follow the material: the booklets that arrived by post, the Swatantra Party files that came to Delhi in a suitcase, the conferences and lectures held around the collection, and a few pictures from the archives of the movements themselves.

Building the collection

The archive began as parcels. Forum of Free Enterprise members posted their booklets, libraries lent rare books to be copied, and archivists as far away as Stanford sent material by air mail.
The Swatantra Party papers

For decades S V Raju kept the Swatantra Party's Bombay office, and its files, going after the party itself had gone. In 2016 the surviving records came to the Centre for Civil Society in a suitcase and two bags. They are catalogued here as archival records.
