About

A modern home for the Indian liberal tradition.

Indian Liberals is a digital archive of primary works by historically significant Indian liberal thinkers, alongside thinker profiles, organisation pages, curated excerpts (“musings”), opinion pieces, interviews, and a federated feed from ThePrint’s “Indian Liberals Matter” column.

The archive is maintained by the Centre for Civil Society in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. The site you are reading was rebuilt by Thothica using the same architectural template that powers Falsafa and Liberty Lighthouse.

What you’ll find here

Eight content kinds, organised in two tiers. Tier A is already-clean content — musings, opinion pieces, interviews, thinker profiles, organisation pages, and the ThePrint mirror — fully searchable and paragraph-citable. Tier B is the primary-work and periodical PDFs — surfaced with rich AI-extracted metadata, summaries, and key points, with the PDF itself as the canonical reference.

For researchers and AI agents

Every HTML page has a markdown sibling at the same URL with .md appended. The curated index lives at /llms.txt; the full archive (every Tier A piece in full, every Tier B summary) lives at /llms-full.txt. The schema, citation rules, and tier system are documented at /AGENTS.md.

A Model Context Protocol server at mcp.indianliberals.in exposes eight tools that return text and structure. The host LLM (whichever client you use) does the reasoning; the server stays simple.

Citation

Tier A pieces carry paragraph-stable IDs of the form #p-xxxxxx — deep-link citable. Tier B primary-work claims should be attributed at summary-level to Indian Liberals and link directly to the PDF for the underlying source. The full citation policy is in /AGENTS.md.
